Founded in March 2024, Data for Good is a social initiative that seeks to improve the working and living conditions of women involved in the informal sectors. To achieve this, the initiative—true to its name—seeks to implement data-driven and small-scale actionable steps to enhance different aspects of their lives, such as public safety, and accessible transportation to workspaces.
Driven to predicate its actions on evidence-based interventions and the specific contexts and lived experiences of women workers in Delhi NCR, the project aims to undertake a comprehensive survey. Based on the findings of this survey, the project seeks to undertake a multifaceted approach to solve these concerns using digital technologies. By distributing in-depth and original knowledge resources to raise awareness about ways of maximizing personal safety through adopting technologies such as GPS and speed dials, the project hopes to ensure that women are able to access safety personnel and other forms of help when required. Further, the project also aims to organize fundraising campaigns with the aim of distributing smartphones to women, with the hope that the phones would ensure that they have access to information, communication, and other support resources available to them as needed. It is thus that Data for Good is committed to the mission of empowering women by equipping them with the resources necessary to navigate their surroundings safely.
